Botanical Printing
Botanical Printing is the rhythmic art of transferring the natural pigments of flowers and leaves onto fabric using simple tools and gentle force. This ancient practice, found in various forms across Southeast Asia, is both meditative and expressive—blending creativity, nature, and tradition in a single beat. In Japan, the technique is called tataki-zome (literally “pounding dye”), and in parts of Southeast Asia, similar plant imprinting methods were once used to decorate textiles, ritual cloths, and personal heirlooms.
Today, flower pounding is experiencing a quiet revival among artists, educators, and slow crafters. It is accessible, therapeutic, and sustainable—inviting us to pause, notice the beauty in impermanence, and make art with what grows around us.
This is a self-paced, unguided session where you’ll have the freedom to experiment, reflect, and create at your own rhythm. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary.
Preserve the pulse of plant-based creativity. Make art that’s rooted, living, and beautifully fleeting.
